A document that clearly identifies the reasoning for initiating a project to justify the resources required. It is written to justify the resources required for the project (money or effort) and align the project objectives to the business needs.
The project sponsor is generally accountable for the development and maintenance of the project business case document, while the project manager is responsible for providing recommendations and oversight to keep it in alignment.
